If you’re looking for more ways to personalize your loadout, Sidekicks are a great option. But since they weren’t always available, you might be unsure how to actually go about unlocking them. If this process has you stumped, here are all Sidekicks and how to get them in Fortnite.

There are currently three ways to get Sidekicks, but additional methods could be added in future updates. For now, though, the main ways you can unlock them are through the battle pass and the item shop. The third method is by obtaining one for free if you already have the Back Bling version, but this only applies to one Sidekick so far.

The first-ever Sidekick, Peels the banana dog, is obtainable through the battle pass in Fortnite’s The Simpsons season. Bonesy, a dog that was previously released as a Back Bling, is the only one that can be obtained for free if you already have this item. Otherwise, Bonesy can be bought from the shop, and all other Sidekicks are shop exclusives, so you have to pay a V-Bucks fee to unlock them.

While there are only two ways to get them for now, we could see additional unlock options in the future. There could be special events, quests, or other new methods for recruiting them added since this is a fairly new feature, so if any are, we’ll update with them here.

Upon acquiring any Sidekick, you then need to customize its appearance. You can only do so once, and once you lock in your base choices, like fur color, eye color, and other such features, they cannot be changed. Additional cosmetic items, like shirts or hats, can be modified at any point, but the base color and pattern features can’t. You must buy the same Sidekick again to customize an additional one with different features.

More Sidekicks will be released in the future, with a teaser for a cat Sidekick already unveiled in the official blog post announcing this feature. With how Bonesy was handled, it also seems likely we’ll get other Back Bling animals converted to Sidekicks, too, so if you have any of them, you may get a free friend in the future. As any new Sidekicks join the game, we’ll add them here.

Now that you have an adorable, loyal new friend at your side, it’s time to get to work tackling key missions around the island. If you’re not sure what to do, consider finding Hidden Gags, meeting up with all characters you can find around the island, exploring The Simpsons’ house, and destroying objects at Krusty Burger or Lard Lad.
